Ricardo "Ricky" Romero (he/him), Parole Success Advocate, is a Parole Success Advocate with UnCommon Law and a formerly incarcerated youth offender who served more than 25 years in prison before successfully earning release through the California Board of Parole Hearings. Drawing from his lived experience, Ricardo is deeply committed to supporting incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals as they navigate the challenges of rehabilitation, parole, and reentry. In his role with UnCommon Law, he facilitates parole preparation inside correctional institutions, helping participants better understand the parole process, develop insight and accountability, and strengthen the skills needed to successfully present themselves before the Board.
Prior to joining UnCommon Law, Ricardo worked with CROP as a Program Intern and Ready4Life Coach in training, and with La Familia's Safe Harbor respite program as a Peer Support Specialist providing trauma informed support and stabilization services to justice impacted individuals. Ricardo also serves on the Board of Bay Area Freedom Collective, a transitional housing program in Castro Valley, California, where he helps support individuals returning home from incarceration as they rebuild stability and reintegration into their communities. Through mentorship, advocacy, and community engagement, Ricardo remains dedicated to promoting healing, transformation, and long term success for justice impacted people.
