Darby Aono (she/her), Equal Justice Works Fellow, holds a J.D. from Berkeley Law and a B.S. in Cognitive Science from Yale University. During her time in law school, Darby worked with UnCommon Law as a law clerk. She also participated in the Berkeley Law Death Penalty Clinic and worked as a legal intern for California's Office of the State Public Defender. Darby is now an Equal Justice Works Fellow, sponsored by Covington & Burling LLP and The Clorox Company Foundation. During her Fellowship, Darby will provide habeas corpus representation to elder Lifers who were illegally denied parole. She will also create and distribute a resource guide for Lifers who seek to challenge an illegal parole denial but do not have access to counsel. The guide will include answers to common questions about habeas petitions, as well as template arguments challenging the most common illegal bases for denial.
