Emma Tolman (she/her), Staff Attorney, Home After Harm, holds a J.D. from the U.C. Berkeley School of Law and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Michigan. Emma became acutely aware of, and passionate about, the capacity for personal transformation during her work with a job training program and urban farm on the South Side of Chicago. There, she helped people with extreme barriers to employment, including people returning from prison, prepare to enter or reenter the workforce. Emma began volunteering with UnCommon Law in 2017 as a co-leader of the Post Conviction Advocacy Project at Berkeley Law. During law school, Emma also worked with the East Bay Community Law Center’s Clean Slate Practice, Bay Area Legal Aid’s Youth Justice Unit, the East Bay Family Defenders, the Death Penalty Clinic, and the ACLU of Michigan.
